Programs

The U-District Foundation was established as way for us to give back to the Spokane community. Our goal is to encourage kids to live healthy lives and inspire them to dream great dreams! We offer free youth fitness camps, sports training scholarships for individuals and teams, and provide assistance to local schools’ physical education programs.

Fitness & Fun Camp

Our Fitness & Fun Camp was designed to teach kids healthy eating habits, cardiovascular & strengthening exercises, goal setting and teamwork, all while having a lot of FUN! The camp is run by our team of physical therapists, strength & conditioning coaches, personal trainers, ATCs, friends, and family. We send out scholarships to all the local community centers, boys & girls clubs, Morning Star Boys Ranch and Title 1 schools so that the kids are able to come totally free of charge. The goal of camp is to love & encourage kids so that they will link health & fitness with fun and success. Camps run Monday thru Thursday during spring, summer, and winter breaks.

PE Programs

We know the importance of physical activity and the role it plays in contributing to a healthy mind and spirit. Through the U-District Foundation, we are able to donate our certified strength & conditioning coaches’ time to local schools so that they can assist in their PE programs. Because of budgetary reasons, some schools in Spokane have cut their PE programs and we have been able to step in and make sure that kids are still getting out and playing.

Scholarships

After training hundreds of athletes in the Spokane area and seeing a wide range of athleticism and effort, we noticed that every athlete had one thing in common… they could afford it. We want to make sure that all motivated athletes who are hungry to better themselves have an opportunity to be coached by qualified trainers who really care about them. Our scholarship program has an application process that requires the athlete to reflect upon their goals and what they want to get out of their training. If they are selected, they have the opportunity to “pay it forward” by donating their time at our Fitness & Fun Camp and teaching other athletes the same skills they learned during their individual training.

Family Challenge
The family Challenge is designed for children ages 8-14 who are obese or at risk for obesity related health conditions.

* Two one hour workout sessions per week
* At least one family member is required to participate in all sessions, all family members are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Mentorship Program
We are currently in the process of building our new program which will help us implement our message one on one with students in our community. We hope to start this April matching our mentors with children ages 6-12. We are currently looking for mentors over the age of 21 so if you know of anyone or are interested your self let us know! If you have any questions email Mike Sacco at mikes@udistrictpt.com.

Mike Sacco– Mike retired as the Operations Training Manager for the Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Eastern Region in 2008. He piloted the first operations training program in eastern Washington with such success that it was replicated across the state. As part of his state wide duties Mike hosted two leadership conferences each year.

As a long time volleyball coach (25 seasons) Mike’s teams were successful on the court winning seventy five percent of the matches. Off the court, Mike was often a counselor and mentor to his players. He continues to enjoy a relationship with many of his former players to this day.

In October of 2011, Mike came out of retirement to start the U-District Foundation Mentoring Program. After researching other successful mentoring programs and writing procedure and policy manuals, Mike is in full recruiting mode. He is reaching out to the schools our Foundation serves to identify students who could benefit from mentoring. And he continues to find mentors to work with those students.

If you are interested in mentoring or know of a child who needs a mentor contact Mike at: MikeS@UdistrictPT.com
